Ship the How
Anyone can ship a what now. The how — the architecture, the failures, the constraints that held — is the scarce asset. So publish it.
What got cheap#
Working software got cheap. Not free, not trivial — cheap. A competent builder with a frontier model can stand up in a week what used to justify a seed round. This is wonderful, and it has a corollary nobody enjoys saying out loud: the what is no longer evidence of anything.
A landing page proves taste in landing pages. A demo proves the happy path exists. Neither proves the thing that matters — that the builder understands the system well enough to keep it alive when reality starts negotiating.
The how is the product#
What survived the price collapse: knowing what to build, and being able to show how you built it.
The how is where all the signal hides. Anyone can claim a grocery agent; the credibility lives in the clear-first cart staging that exists because stale items once rode into a second checkout, the health probe that pages on the first silent selector regression, the evals that were wired up on day one — before the first cart ever built.

The "what broke" sections are not confessions — they're the resume. A failure you can explain precisely is worth more than a success you can't.
There's a system on the lab bench right now that takes this idea literally: it sells the how. Every memo it ships must trace every number to a cited primary source, enforced by deterministic code, or it doesn't ship and doesn't bill. Provable work, priced per call.

The other half of the edge has nothing to do with engineering. Build fast, adapt faster — fine, table stakes. The compounding skill is making someone care about what you built: choosing problems with stakes a stranger can feel, then showing the work in a way that respects their time.
Caring is engineered with restraint, not volume. Say little at the surface. Make depth available, never mandatory. The reader who wants thirty seconds leaves satisfied; the reader who wants thirty minutes finds something true at the bottom — a real log, a real decision that cost something, a gate that bounced a real attack.
